Severn Wye Energy Agency is a not-for-profit company and registered charity working for sustainable energy and affordable warmth in Wales and the South West of England
Green Dragon is a stepped Standard recognising effective environmental management. The Standard offers an environmental management system relevant to the specific needs of companies and organisations in Wales and rewards actions taken to achieve environmental improvements.
The Cotswolds Green Scheme (CGS) is a local sustainable tourism initiative. Participating tourism businesses can complete a self-assessment questionnaire measuring their commitment to environmental issues such as car-free tourism, use of local produce, nature and conservation, recycling and resource use, and energy efficiency. Businesses who participate in the Cotswolds Green Scheme are committed to raising awareness of the Cotswolds, and taking steps to help conserve its valued qualities.
The European Eco-label distinguishes products that meet high standards of both performance and environmental quality. Every product awarded the EU Eco-label must pass rigorous environmental fitness trials, with results verified by an independent body. Other environmental labels cover specific environmental concerns such as recyclability or energy efficiency, but the Flower of the EU Eco-label stands for low environmental impacts throughout a product's lifecycle - from manufacturing to disposal. Criteria exist for more than 23 types of products and services, with new categories continuously being adopted. The Flower adorns, among other items, environmentally friendly appliances, clothing, gardening products and tourist accommodation.
Visit the Severn Wye Energy Agency website to watch a short film highlighting the issues of European carbon footprint and efforts by communities to combat this footprint through of the Covenant of Mayors project. The project is a mainstream European movement involving local and regional authorities, voluntarily committing to increasing energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources on their territories. By their commitment, Covenant signatories aim to meet and exceed the European Union 20% CO2 reduction objective by 2020
